He’s Doing a New Thing
Townes has been doing great! He is now slightly over 9 pounds and has some cute little baby rolls and all the nurses comment on how big he has gotten. What a blessing…he is getting stronger each day! We are currently, tentatively, scheduled again to go back to the CATH lab week after next (the week of Easter). Our doctors want to schedule him with the Cath lab just in case we need it.
I told Scott that I think Townes will marry a blonde. He gives every blonde nurse a little flirty smile in the morning sooooo if this is foreshadowing into our future, Scott has a lot to deal with in another few years 😂 ! He also has this amazing “side eye”…the other day one of our nurse practitioners walked in and we started talking about exercising, and it just so happened to be during his feeding time. After about 10 minutes of our chatting, Townes had had enough. He stopped eating and gave her the sharpest side eye look of annoyance. She said, “okay, okay, I get it. This is time with your mom; we are done.” Once she had exited the room, his body language suggested “okay finally, they listened to me” and he went right back to eating. What a funny kid. I love watching his personality develop and discovering who the Lord has made him to be.
This season is teaching me there is so much to learn…how to be a mom, how to be a working mom, how to still be a friend during a time where were are encouraged to ‘social distance’, and if I thought I was an efficient time manager before – now I am even refining those skills, but its also teaching me that we are always on a journey of discovering who our Father in heaven is. That with each passing day and season, we discover more.
This week he used a stranger to speak into me to strengthen my faith. It’s easy to forget…when life happens, when you feel so many demands on you, when you don’t see ‘physically’ with your eyes any movement…you can lose your footing. But our Father in heaven is so kind, nurturing, and loving that he would even send a stranger to bring his truth back into focus.
Wednesday, I answered a call while working – it was someone I didn’t know but who had called our office before in February. She had a note to call back because my business partner, Jae, had mentioned that I was having a baby and a baby that would require extra medical attention upon birth. He was concerned about my family so she made a note to check in. It wasn’t by chance that I answered her call. It was ordained, not for her – for me and I had no idea. I wonder how much we can miss sometimes because we aren’t even aware of all that the Lord is doing on our behalf.
Today this woman called me back to let me know that as she was praying for my son, and while doing so, she felt strongly that the Lord wanted her and me to pray specifically for him to receive a new heart. The Lord directed her to the following verses, Romans 4:17 “I have made you a father of many nations. He is our father in sight of God, in whom he believed – the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.” and Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” She told me to start praying specifically for Townes’ NEW HEART!
I am in awe of her boldness…frankly, I don’t know if the situation were reversed if I would have had the courage and boldness to call a complete stranger, someone I have never met and only spoken too for 2 minutes on the phone to share what the Lord put on my heart. But she did…and the outcome?
At the very least I have a renewed spirit, a new energy and confidence that the Lord sees me and more importantly he sees and values my son as his own. That the Lord must have a deep everlasting love to send a complete stranger to speak to me. Like a defibrillator does for a heart – she reactivated my faith when just the night before I had started to question myself, she gave more oxygen and life to the truths I have been standing on, and she told me how to pray specifically when lately I have not known how or what to pray.
So I find myself grateful for this woman. I want to challenge you in this season of uncertainty, a season where we may feel disconnected from our family and friends…be BOLD – your simple hello or words of encouragement for someone might be just what they need to keep going.
As a body of believers, this is how the Lord intended it. 1 Corinthians 14:3, “But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.” Don’t miss what the Lord’s doing, because I know he is doing a new thing, we just haven’t seen it materialize yet. I believe that on the other side of this, we will all discover that the Lord has been doing a new thing, a beautiful thing, and something that only he can do!
And join me in praying for my son, Townes, who is on Day 50 of his quarantine. We pray he receives a NEW HEART soon! “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you” Ezekiel 36:26
I can’t wait to send the update some day soon about his new heart! And thank you Jordana Nicholson with Alma Heirlooms for the beautiful video of my family.
With Expectation –
Maleah
